Longing Lamp

The Longing Lamp is a tall floor lamp in grey graphite tones, cast in pigmented alabaster plaster and carved by hand, with two large openings lit from within by hidden, dimmable light. It belongs to the Living Forms collection and is made in an edition of 20. The Living Forms begin as rough plaster casts that we carve by hand, working with traditional techniques until the surface starts to resemble patterns found in nature, marbled, diverse and never quite predictable. The graphite is worked tone on tone, layer over layer, so the colour sits inside the material rather than on top of it. We make these lamps to be lived with slowly. The light is there to calm a room, not to fill it. Cast and carved by hand, each Longing Lamp carries its own markings. That is the material speaking, and we leave it in.
