Lacuna Lamp

The Lacuna Lamp is a tall floor lamp in white, cast in alabaster plaster and carved by hand, with a single large opening through its centre lit by a hidden, dimmable light. It is made in an edition of 20. This is the first piece we ever made. It came out of our earliest experiments in translating sculptural thinking into light, in the spare room of our home that served as the first workshop. Everything we have made since carries something of it, the dialogue between mass and emptiness, and light used not as a backdrop but as the thing that shapes the form. Each Lacuna is cast and carved by hand. The soft irregularities in the surface are not corrected. They are the piece.
