Alabaster plaster

Alabaster plaster
Bone Black
Alabaster plaster · Bone Black
Bone Black is the deepest colour we use, an ancient black once made from charred ivory and today from charred bone. It does not fade and it does not weather, which feels right for a colour that has outlived everyone who ever used it. In alabaster plaster it becomes a black with softness in it, matte and mineral, holding light rather than swallowing it. On a carved surface it shows every gesture of the hand.

Alabaster plaster
Burnt Siena
Alabaster plaster · Burnt Siena
Burnt Siena is an ancient pigment with fire in its story. It begins as yellow earth, and roasting in kilns turns it into this warm red brown, a transformation painters have trusted since before anyone wrote down how it works. Ours is ground by wind at a historic Dutch paint mill near Amsterdam. Worked into the plaster layer over layer, it gives a surface between terracotta and autumn.

Alabaster plaster
Ecru
Alabaster plaster · Ecru
Ecru is a warm, quiet off-white, the colour of unbleached linen. We mix it ourselves in the studio, warming the natural white plaster with a trace of yellow ochre, the oldest pigment people have, an iron rich earth that was drawing on cave walls long before it warmed anyone's living room. In the plaster it does very little, and that is the point. Ecru is white with a memory of earth in it.

Alabaster plaster
Graphite
Alabaster plaster · Graphite
Graphite is crystalline carbon, the same mineral that sits in every pencil. As a pigment it keeps a little of its own nature in the finish, a soft, almost metallic depth rather than a flat grey. Worked tone on tone through the plaster, it makes the surface read like weathered stone. It is the colour of the Longing Lamp, and our favourite proof that grey is not one colour but many.

Alabaster plaster
Green Umber
Alabaster plaster · Green Umber
Green Umber is an ancient earth pigment dug in France, Italy, Germany and Cyprus. It is officially a brown, but a brown that leans green, the colour of forest floor rather than field. We reach for it when a piece needs to sit closer to nature than to architecture. Ground slowly between granite millstones, it shifts in layered plaster with the daylight, sometimes moss, sometimes shadow, never one thing.

Alabaster plaster
Hazelnut
Alabaster plaster · Hazelnut
Hazelnut is a warm mid brown we mix ourselves in the studio from earth pigments of the umber family. Umber is roasted earth. The old word burnt in its name simply means fired, the step that deepens the colour to chestnut. Worked tone on tone through the plaster, it gives the marbled warmth you see on the Infinite Lamp. It is the brown of something grown rather than something painted.

Alabaster plaster
Natural White
Alabaster plaster · Natural White
Natural White is the colour of the material itself. Nothing is added. This is alabaster plaster as it comes from the cast, a soft, dense white with a faint translucency, closest to the alabaster stone it takes its name from. Light sinks a little way into the surface before it returns, giving white pieces their calm, almost lit from within presence. It is the white of Ikigai and the first Lacuna Lamp.

Alabaster plaster
Oxide Pink
Alabaster plaster · Oxide Pink
Oxide Pink is oxide red softened into the white of the plaster until only its warmth remains. The pigment is an iron oxide, the same mineral that colours rust and red rock, with strong colour and very good lightfastness, so this pink will not fade on you. Worked tone on tone through the layered surface, it reads as mineral rather than sweet, closer to stone than to sugar. A pink with iron in its blood.

Alabaster plaster
Pink Beige
Alabaster plaster · Pink Beige
Pink Beige is a colour we make ourselves, mixed in the studio from red and brown earth pigments until it lands exactly between skin and stone. The red is oxide red, strong and lightfast. The brown is roasted umber earth. Both are ground by wind at a historic Dutch paint mill. Layered tone on tone, it becomes the warm, powdery pink of Bosei, never quite deciding whether it is pink or beige.

Alabaster plaster
Yellow Ochre
Alabaster plaster · Yellow Ochre
Yellow Ochre is the oldest colour humanity owns. It is iron rich earth from France and Italy, and it has been on cave walls for tens of thousands of years, which makes it the most time tested finish we offer. Ground between three ton granite millstones at a wind powered Dutch paint mill, then worked into the plaster tone on tone, it gives a warm, sunlit surface that feels more like a place than a colour.

Ceramic bisque
Gray
Earthenware bisque · Gray
Gray is our coolest ceramic finish, an unglazed earthenware bisque with the tone of river stone. In changing daylight it moves between warm and cool, and the dry surface catches shadow the way slate does. It suits the pieces that want to be quiet in a room, and it pairs naturally with the warmer finishes when several works hang together on one wall, the cool voice in the conversation.

Ceramic bisque
Light Terracotta
Earthenware bisque · Light Terracotta
Light Terracotta is earthenware at its most honest. Terracotta simply means baked earth, and this finish is exactly that, a paler version of the colour clay turns when fire gets involved. Unglazed, it keeps the warm, porous surface people have trusted for as long as pots have existed, and in the evening light it glows a little, as if it remembered the kiln it came from. It wears time well.

Ceramic bisque
Off-White
Earthenware bisque · Off-White
Off-White is an earthenware bisque with a little more warmth in the clay body, fired without glaze. It has the soft, chalky presence of a sun bleached shell, and it takes light gently, holding it in the surface instead of reflecting it back. Most of the Buddy sculptures wear it, and it suits them, warm without being sweet, quiet without disappearing into the wall, the way good company behaves.

Ceramic bisque
Pure White
Earthenware bisque · Pure White
Pure White is the lightest of our ceramic finishes, an earthenware bisque fired without glaze. The white is the clay's own, not a coating, and the firing leaves the surface fine, dry and open, the texture that makes people reach out before they realise they are doing it. It takes light softly, without a single reflection, and it is available across all of our ceramic pieces, from the vases to the wall lamps.

Ceramic bisque
Sand
Earthenware bisque · Sand
Sand is an unglazed earthenware bisque in the colour of dry dunes, the finish of Tension, VOID and Form No_07. The bisque firing leaves the surface open and alive, closer to stone than to porcelain, and the colour refuses to sit still. As the light moves through the day it drifts from pale gold to soft grey and back, which is exactly why we keep returning to it, piece after piece.
