Wonder Things

Wonder Things is our collection of large suspended light sculptures, cast in alabaster plaster and carved by hand. It holds the most ambitious pieces we make, Ikigai and Bosei.

The collection grew from our long interest in the Japanese approach to living, where attention, purpose and quiet are practised rather than talked about. Each sculpture begins with a state of being. Ikigai carries the search for a life's purpose and the struggle that comes with it. Bosei holds the transformation of motherhood, protection and warmth in one shell. The forms took months to find, and some were carved while hanging in the air, the way they would live.

The surfaces are built in layers, tones of one colour applied, sanded back and applied again, so the light never sits still on them. Each piece is made by hand in a small edition, and no two are alike.
