The Ikigai is a one-of-a-kind gypsum pendant lamp. The lamp’s goal is to impact the viewer’s emotional state, understand oneself through introspection. The title derives from the Japanese concept Ikigai (reason for being). The sculptural form allowed to introduce complexity into how light spreads and achieves multi-toned surfaces. The sphere softens the light and emphasises the idea of self-discovery. The object’s mass reveals how deeply it is concealed inside. The lamp was made by layering plaster resulting in unpredictable finishes.
